The Olive Press, Bazoukata | Sleeps 8 | from £1,800.00 per week

The Olive Press is a beautifully renovated original listed olive press circa 1875 the ruins re-built over several years to exactly what it would have looked like in the day with thick cooling stone walls and oak floors. The original building dates back to Venetian times and although the restoration of the property has modernised it and brought a high level of comfort to the villa, the essence of its origins have been retained. It has its own private heated swimming pool making it perfect for early bookings in May and later ones through until November. The property is surrounded by nature in a cypress wooded area with only six other villas scattered around a hillside location but not overlooking the Olive press with wonderful views to the island of Ithaka and a short drive to Fiskardo. A highly enviable location with Foki beach, a haven for snorklers, within walking distance down the hill with its own restaurant and the aforementioned lovely fishing village of Fiscardo 1 km further on. Walking up the hill leads to the hamlet of Magganos where there are three excellent restaurants, a greengrocer and a store. The main entrance to the house is on the 2nd level where there is a very large open-plan space with living, dining and kitchen areas. A stunning feature is the wonderful vaulted ceiling with oak floors throughout. The living room has very large, comfortable sofas, a log-burning stove and library with music centre. The kitchen is very stylish with Italian custom-made units in cream and deep aubergine  and is particularly well equipped for even the most serious of cooks. Included is a full sized fridge a separate freezer and ceramic hob, microwave and dishwasher as well as many additions such as electric ice and ice-cream maker, and percolators. The dining area with seating for eight is spacious and a lovely area for friends to gather whilst the cooks are in action!  French windows lead to the outside dining area underneath a shaded pergola which again seats eight and the pool and garden, and a second set of French windows lead to a very pretty large balcony with seating and panoramic views across the bay to the island of Ithaka. From the living area, oak stairs lead up to a spacious mezzanine level where there are two single beds, a living area and an en-suite bathroom. Opaque glass panels and a wooden screen give privacy to guests using this bedroom, it can be used by adults but is perfect for kids and teenagers. The mezzanine level has it's own air conditioning unit and the roof windows are UV glass to help keep it cool. Adjoining the living room is a utility area for guest's with a fitted cupboard unit encompassing the washing machine and storage. Downstairs are two double bedrooms each with their own en-suite bathrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and separate dressing room with French windows leading to a small, private garden with outdoor seating.  The second double bedroom also has a king-size bed with French windows leading to a patio again overlooking the sea and island of Ithaka. Leading off the main house ground floor is a contemporary designed glass tunnel which leads internally from the bedroom level to 'The Honeypot’ apartment. The small lounge in Honeypot has a TV and settee, an adjoining bedroom of twin beds that can also be transformed to a king-size bed with double-mattress topper, a small fitted galley kitchen and a separate bathroom with bath and shower. French doors lead out to another private terrace with a large swing bed and wine table. Guests can again enjoy the magnificent views to the island of Ithaka. The property has WIFI, air-conditioning in every room as well as ceiling fans in all bedrooms, Smart TV in the living room for Netflix and other channels, and DVD player with a large library of DVDs. The pool is heated in cooler months at no extra cost to the clients. From the dining area of the main house you step out onto a spacious deck which leads to the lovely swimming pool (42sqm) and outdoor dining area as described above. There is a large barbecue area and outdoor Greek pizza oven in close proximity.  Around the swimming pool are very comfortable loungers and shades. Above the pool garden is an elevated viewing platform accessed by stairs with comfortable seating with sofas and chairs under the shade of a Greek style pergola. This wonderful viewing platform has stunning sea views across to the island of Ithaka and the famous tiny island of Asterida with its tiny church of St Nicholas mentioned in the Odyssey. The garden is colourfully planted with flowers, citrus and fruit trees and many lavender bushes and other fragrant herbs. The surrounding pine and cypress forest adds coolness on long, hot summer days. The Olive Press is located in one of the most sought-after areas of the island close to the picturesque fishing village of Fiskardo with its array of waterfront restaurants, cafes and shops. There are many beautiful beaches to explore in this area just a few minutes away by car, and boats can also be hired from Fiskardo.

It is a 5 minute drive from The Olive Press in to Fiskardo where there is a large choice of tavernas and restaurants serving local specialties as well as a number of bars where you can sit and watch the boats come into the harbour. The harbour is lined with small shops and boutiques as well as ATMs, two bakeries, supermarkets, chemist, chandler and the Fiskardo Dive Centre for those wishing to adventure beneath the waves.

The village of Magganos is a 5 minute drive and has two small supermarkets with fresh bread daily and a good selection of fruit and veg and other daily staples in the two supermarkets.

Beaches we like to visit

Within 5 minutes drive

Foki is a few minutes away by car. It is in a protected bay with a shady olive grove and a cave to swim to and explore as well as a taverna very close-by.

Within 15 minutes drive

Agia Jerusalem beach is a pebble beach with crystal clear water making for great paddling, swimming and if you like to snorkel it's worth swimming out to the rocks where you will find much more marine life than in the bay itself. In high season sun-beds are available for hire on the beach and there is a taverna serving traditional Greek food.

Alaties beach is small but perfectly formed where you can lap up the sunshine either on the beach itself or on the surrounding rocks. There’s good parking available and a beach bar serving food all day and into the evening where you can watch the sun set with a cocktail in hand.

Emblissi beach just outside of Fiskardo is easily accessible, has great swimming, wonderful views across to Lefkas and Meganisi. There's good parking although it does get busy in July and August.

Kimilia beach is a hidden gem accessible only by boat or by foot by following a winding forest path. We recommend you take food and as there are no facilities at the beach.

Dafnoudi beach with its crystal clear water is worth the 10-15 minute hike down from where you park. Of course you can also access the beach by boat. We recommend you take food and water as there are no facilities at the beach.
